As customers select a cloud operating model to support their applications, they look for
the elasticity and scalability of Public Clouds and Enterprise File capabilities such as
Tiering, Quotas and Snapshots. Customers are also looking leverage the cloud for Cloud
Synch and Disaster Recovery operations.
Dell EMC UnityVSA Cloud Edition™ addresses these requirements with support for
VMware Cloud on AWS. Dell EMC UnityVSA Cloud Edition can be easily deployed in a
VMware Cloud SDDC to provide native File Services such as NFS and SMB. Dell EMC
UnityVSA Cloud Edition also enables Cloud Synch Disaster Recovery between on
premises-deployed Dell EMC Unity systems and VMware Cloud-based appliances.
Enterprise File Capabilities
Dell EMC UnityVSA Cloud Edition provides the enterprise file capabilities of the Dell EMC
Unity family within your VMware Cloud SDDC (Software-Defined Data Center). Enterprise
Capabilities such as Snaps, Quotas and Tiering are delivered with Common Unity
experience. With UnityVSA Cloud Edition, File Services are consumed within each
Customer SDDC so there’s no need for an External File Appliance or File Service.
Existing Unity customers can now leverage UnityVSA Cloud Edition as part of their Hybrid
Cloud Strategy leveraging the flexibility of VMware Cloud.
Cloud Synch and Disaster Recovery
Test and Development
UnityVSA Cloud Edition enables the agile deployment of Test and Development Environments. TestDev
workloads can be spun up quickly in the cloud leveraging replicated application instances managed by
UnityVSA Cloud Edition.
Cloud-based Disaster Recovery
UnityVSA Cloud Edition deployed in VMware Cloud allows enterprises to protect all of their applications
with a
flexible approach that simplifies Disaster Recovery. Applications can be deployed quickly during Test or
Recovery operations without the need for dedicated infrastructure that is not used during normal business
operations.
Elastic Compute/Burstable Cloud
Organizations can harness the elasticity of VMware Cloud to align to their dynamic business
requirements. Applications can be deployed in minutes based upon workload demand all while leveraging
the enterprise file capabilities of UnityVSA Cloud Edition
Dell EMC UnityVSA Cloud Edition
The Dell EMC UnityVSA Cloud Edition enables all of the enterprise capabilities of the Dell EMC Unity family to be easily
deployed on a VMware ESXi server, enabling customers to implement an affordable software-defined solution. UnityVSA
Cloud Edition supports the following capabilities:
• Supported File and Block Protocols: NFS, SMB, iSCSI
• Link Aggregation (IEEE 802.3ad) – File access only
• Virtual LAN (IEEE 802.1q)
• Network Status Monitor (NSM) v1
• Portmapper v2
• Network Information Service (NIS) client
• Supports Microsoft DFS as Leaf node or Root Server
• LDAP signing for Windows
• Access Base Enumeration (ABE) for SMB protocol access
VMware Cloud on AWS
VMware Cloud on AWS is an on-demand service that enables you to run applications across vSphere-based cloud
environments with access to a broad range of AWS services. Powered by VMware Cloud Foundation, this service
integrates vSphere, vSAN and NSX along with VMware vCenter management, and is optimized to run on dedicated,
elastic, bare-metal AWS infrastructure. With VMware Hybrid Cloud Extension, customers can easily and rapidly perform
large-scale bi-directional migrations between on-premises and VMware Cloud on AWS environments.
